Industrial Accident Investigation Center

This new center was established in conjunction with the formation of JNIOSH.

Its main role is to manage the industrial accident investigation activities of the institute. In order to effectively prevent workplace accidents, it is important to gather knowledge on the causes and mechanisms of as many types of workplace accidents as possible, through the on-site investigation of actual accidents. The institute has a legal privilege to undertake investigations of workplace accidents if requested by an appropriate Minister.

Upon request by the administration, our center dispatches researchers with relevant expertise to an accident location. These researchers carefully observe the workplace conditions, and bring back, if necessary, materials to the laboratory for further analysis or testing. Accident analysis reports are compiled as soon as possible and subsequently presented to the appropriate authorities for reference during administrative processes; such as the revision of regulations, guidelines, technical standards, and so on.
