Brief History

1942 Established in Tokyo as the Research Institute of Industrial Safety of the Ministry of Welfare.
1943 Annexed the Industrial Safety Exhibition Center.
1947 Transferred to the Ministry of Labour.
1961 Annexed the Industrial Safety Exhibition Center in Osaka.
1966 Established Branch Laboratories in Kiyose, Tokyo.
1971 Reconstructed the Headquarters Building.
1984 Annexed the Machinery System Safety Laboratory in Kiyose.
1985 Annexed the Chemical Safety Laboratory in Kiyose.
1988 Annexed the Construction Safety Laboratory in Kiyose.
1990 Annexed the Electrical Safety Laboratory and Human Science Laboratory in Kiyose.
1992 Completion of a New Headquarters Building with a Material and New Technology Laboratory in Kiyose, and Integration with the Tamachi Laboratory.
1995 Reorganized as the Mechanical and System Safety Research Division, Construction Safety Research Division, Chemical Safety Research Division, and Physical Engineering Safety Research Division.
1996 Reconstructed the Industrial Safety Museum in Osaka.
1997 Reorganized as the Research Planning and Coordination Section.
1999 Annexed the Joint Research Laboratory.
2001 Transferred to the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.
2001 Transfered to an Independent Administrative Institution.
