Physical Engineering Safety Research Group

The Physical Engineering Safety Research Group covers the prevention of industrial hazards caused by physical factors such as electricity and heat. The main activities are as follows: elucidation and prevention of electric shock, elucidation and diagnosis of deterioration of electrical insulating materials, prevention of electrostatic hazards and nuisances, prevention of malfunctions in electronic equipment and systems caused by electromagnetic noise, and application of electronic and electric technologies to industrial safety.
  1. Prevention of electrostatic hazards and nuisances
Research is conducted to identify and evaluate electrostatic hazards and nuisances found in the workplace. To prevent hazards and nuisances, electrostatic phenomena found in many areas in industry are investigated experimentally, theoretically, and computationally. The studies also include the development of new technology, safety assessment, standards, and education for reducing risks related to electrostatic hazards and nuisances.

  2. Preventing the malfunction of electronic equipment and systems due to electromagnetic noise
Studies are conducted to prevent the malfunction of electronic equipment and systems occurring as the result of electromagnetic noise. The evaluation technique for immunity of electronic equipment and systems in accordance with the electromagnetic environment in which the equipment will be installed is studied. Furthermore, the electromagnetic interference of the overload preventive device of a large crane due to medium frequency is also studied.
